Wanna Hear a Fucked Up Story?
This week's Decent Fucking Human is co-host Terrible Scott. His fucked up story is about emotional abuse and discovering his wife's secret lives.
Hello Terrible Listener, and welcome to the first episode of Positively Terrible. This story is the one where Scott (that's me), his wife's fiance, and her boyfriend, all walk into a bar. It's the story about how after that night I had to come to terms with being an abused husband, which was a thought that had never crossed my mind. I also had to choose between shame and sharing my story, so naturally, I decided to make a damn podcast. This episode is dedicated to the memory of the marriage of Scott and Redacted.
In January 2021, I was isolated. We were heading into pandemic season two, I was working from home, and my wife was never there because of "work." If that wasn't enough, one of my cats decided to succumb to kidney disease just a few weeks after being diagnosed. Weeks into 2021 it was not shaping up to be my year, and February and March were even worse. My wife had what I characterized at the time as a "mental breakdown" and wouldn't seek help for it, so I decided that I'd start therapy and find out how to best support her.
Starting therapy was pretty fucking rad. The first month I talked about her and wanted to know how I could support her, but after that I decided that I had to control the things I could control - and what I could control was me. That decision changed my life.
When my wife got into a suspicious car accident in July - suspicious because the details didn't make sense and the insurance claim didn't match the details she gave me - I was able to follow the leads. I'd had suspicions for a long time, but I always stopped one question short. I didn't want to know the truth. This time I followed the leads and ended up in a bar with her fiance and her boyfriend.
