Lots of Childhood Trauma - With Dana

Lots of childhood trauma is what Dana came on to talk about. Not just childhood trauma, but lots of childhood trauma. He said he suffered his first traumas in the womb before experiencing just about every form of abuse you can. Six months after being sexually abused, before he'd even had a chance to process what happened, he had to go on the run with the family because his dad was a wanted criminal. Oh, and he also saw soldiers killing people in the streets when the Brazil while they were on the run. Then he got hit by a car, which doesn't sound so bad compared to everything else. Then he turned eight...

It was a lot for his little brain, but if you're hoping it gets better from there, you'll have to wait a little longer. His reaction was to be an asshole. He was angry, and he was strong - it was a bad combination. When he finally realized the damage he was doing, he turned to drugs. A better way to medicate than beating people up if you ask me, but still probably not the best way to cope.

Dana did eventually get his shit together. His parents got him into therapy before it was cool, and then he started to realize that being a therapist is pretty cool too. Now he's a clinical psychologist in Santa Barbara, CA, and hosts a podcast called Fear Me Out so he can reach those not able to work with in person.

I'll be honest - Dana's methods will require you to keep an open mind. That's not an insult to Dana - at one point he even said "how could you not be skeptical?" His stories are ones of hypnosis and recovered memories - including in utero - and he admitted that he had not believed in some of his experiences before he experienced them. Life experiences are pretty convincing, and I'm sure as hell not going to argue with the results. I'm happy Dana found the treatment led him to the life of a Decent Fucking Human.
